Glycolic acid is a type of alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) and is used in treatments and products to resurface skin and increase collagen and elastin production. It is one of the few cosmeceutical ingredients that has consistently been shown to increase collagen and elastin in independent clinical trials.
It is firstly used to remove the top (epidermal) layer of the skin. As the epidermal layer is removed it encourages collagen remodelling from within. The result is a refined surface texture; pores are minimised, overall translucence is increased and skin tone is improved
