Red veins (also known as broken capillaries or thread veins) usually reside in the deeper layers of the skin but they can dilate and rupture and appear near the surface of the skin as red line often surrounded by in increase in pinkish colour around the area. They often appear in clusters giving the skin a flushed and permanently reddened look.

The dilation and rupture can occur because of exposure to chemicals or elements that are too harsh for the skin, the skin may be sensitive or highly reactive. There may also be a genetic component to the appearance of the red veins.

Red veins are treated with electrolysis.
